Boliden is a high-tech metal company with its own mines and smelters, founded in the year 1924. The organization’s purpose is to guarantee society’s supply of base and precious metals through the mining of ore (minerals) and the production and delivery of high-quality metals. The majority of the workforce is located in Sweden, Finland, Norway & Ireland.  Innovation, automation, digitalization, CSR & security are key  strategic focus areas to continuously improving productivity and reinforcing the position of being a leading company in it’s domain aiming to be emission neutral​.


After 20 years of using an on-prem, under dimensioned payroll system the EOL had finally come.  Boliden needed a partner to understand their needs and what solution would be the best fit. The transactional HR activities were very manual. The system support lacked functionality and had poor data quality and did not offer sufficient insights.

From the Autumn of 2021 until November 2023, we have been Boliden’s partner in their digital transformation of their transactional HR.

• Strategy study & RFI: AS-IS, HRIS market & trends, TO-BE scenarios & roadmap, selection principles, high-level requirements incl. knock-outs & vendor short list
  1. Awareness harmonizing opportunities, both in Sweden & for other Boliden markets
• Selection & RFP of:
  1. Payroll solution incl. Travel & Expense
  2. Advanced time: Time & Attendance & WFM
• Implementation preparation: To-Be architecture & integration design & securing project resourcing
• Implementation:Project & change Management, Integrations, Migration, Test – Pilot – Training, design of governance organization & SME for Boliden’s cross country HR transformation


We established a clear view & common understanding of the HRM domain with our HRM Canvas. The selected & implemented systems are scalable to all Boliden markets (most payroll systems in the Nordics are local due to very specific needs)

• Decided HRIS strategy & clear target architecture leading the way for other Boliden markets
  1. 2023 we started supporting Norway
• Implemented solutions covering the functional needs of different groups, including supervisors (earlier lacking scheduling tool) with good UX
• Implemented, internationally scalable governance organization

During 2023 a new Payroll & a WFM system are being implemented enabling future harmonization and or outsourcing opportunities globally
